Symposium on ESS Neutron Protein Crystallography 2013
The symposium will focus on the methods and results that can be obtained by neutron macromolecular crystallography and will provide an opportunity to discuss future uses of the strong neutron source that will be provided by the European Spallation Source (ESS), planned to open in Lund, Sweden in 2019. Scientific sessions will cover the use of neutron diffraction in the study of enzymatic mechanisms (from both academic and industry points of view), protein-water interactions, as well as the use of neutron diffraction to study biological membranes and membrane proteins. Finally, the symposium will focus on the current state and developments in sample preparation as well as software for neutron crystallography.

PhD defense by Canan Do?anl?
During the course of her PhD studies, Canan Do?anl? researched variants of this causative membrane pump in zebrafish, which has evolved as an excellent model system particularly for studying neurological disorders. Her results show that this membrane pump is important for normal functioning of skeletal and heart muscle, and also neuronal excitability in zebrafish, sharing highly comparable properties with its mammalian counterparts and relating to the symptoms observed in patients suffering from FHM2 or RDP.
