PUMP KING POKER

The set of custom made playing cards contains P-type ATPases in different catalytic states, different ions, ATP and pump-specific inhibitors. Players need to assemble valid 'hands' in order to score, such as a full functional cycle, a 'micro crystal' or a functional pump with its specific ions, counter-ions and ATP.

A card game as a tool for teaching and public outreach

The "Pump King Poker" is an educational card game developed and designed by Maike Bublitz, Xiangyu Liu and Oleg Sitsel, assisted by other members of the Nissen Lab, on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Department of Molecular Biology at Aarhus University in 2010.

In order to teach members from other research groups about P-type ATPases, a poker-like card game was invented.
